About me

Autobiography

I was born in 1965 in the town of Plovdiv. I have been painting since early age and I still follow my inspiration thanks to the unlimited support and love of my parents.

I graduated from the High Technical School for Carpentry and Interior Architecture in my hometown, majoring in wood carving. This was followed by two years of military service, after which I was admitted to the Higher Teachers Institute. Since my graduation in 1988 to present day I have been teaching art to middle- and high school pupils.

In 1988 I got interested in Orthodox Christian icons. I started studying and mastering this artistic craft and in 1992 I was accepted as a regular member of the Fellowship of the Masters of Folk and Art Crafts of Bulgaria - specialty icon painting.
To this date I have painted around 500 icons.

In 1997, alongside with icon painting, I became also deeply fascinated by watercolor painting.
It was exactly watercolor, which provided ground for my deep and most true artistic representation. Icons teach me work, discipline, perfectionism, perseverance, strong will and several other moral values and virtues. While watercolor sets me free and reaches the bottom of my heart and soul...

So far I have had 31 solo exhibitions. In 2014 I was listed, together with 39 fellow artists from around the world, in the art catalog Contemporary Watercolor Masters, published in the United States. Among my solo exhibitions were that at the Bulgarian Cultural Institute in Berlin in 2014, at a private gallery in Barcelona in March 2016 and at the Bulgarian Cultural Institute in London in September 2016.

I have participated in several group exhibitions and workshops across the country and abroad, some of them in Turkey, Macedonia and Serbia. I often receive invitations to participate in various art competitions and exhibitions around the world, also invitations for solo exhibitions.

I feel satisfied that I work what I like most. And if I am to paraphrase the popular phrase of the French philosopher René Descartes and turn it into my inspirational motto, it would be I paint, therefore I am

Naturally, I am also happy that so many of my works (watercolors and icons) are found in homes, offices and private collections across Europe and in several countries worldwide.
I love to travel the world!

Since 2001 I have been studying astrology - the earliest science of mankind, and since 2010 I have been practicing it in professional manner.
